Was craving something spicy and soupy today, so I ended up at Myungga II by Lucky Vicky at Bukit Timah Plaza.

Ordered the seafood jjampong, and the first thing I noticed was how massive the bowl was. Seriously, so much soup! Even after finishing my meal, more than half the broth was still left.

For the seafood, there were 2 scallops, 2 prawns, 2 mussels and 4 lala clams. There were also some mushrooms and spring onions, but otherwise not much in the way of vegetables. Most of the seafood was alright, although I felt the mussels weren't the freshest. Nothing particularly outstanding about the seafood, but the spicy, soupy bowl did satisfy my craving.

The meal came with four banchan: kimchi, rolled egg, spicy bean sprouts and what I think was seasoned seaweed or kelp. I liked the kimchi enough to get another serving. I also wanted more bean sprouts, but unfortunately they had run out. The egg wasn't available for refills either.

Now, the one thing that really affected the experience was how HOT the place was. Granted, I was eating spicy jjampong, so that definitely didn't help, but I was genuinely perspiring buckets. The drinking water on the table was also room temperature, which wasn't exactly refreshing when you're already sweating away. And the food smell does get onto your clothes, so probably not the best place to eat before heading somewhere nice.

That said, I thought Vicky herself was really friendly. She was going around offering gimbap to customers, and I managed to try both the kimchi tuna and Spam versions. Both were nice! A small gesture, but one I appreciated.

Would I come back? Maybe, if I were craving jjampong and happened to be around Bukit Timah Plaza. The portions are generous and the hospitality is lovely, but the dining environment really could be more comfortable.

I came for something hot and spicy. Got exactly that. Perhaps a little too much of the hot part. 😂
